Romani Inspired

The fabric for this purse was given to me by my fellow ASG member, Anita. It was a while ago, I just could not decide what to make of it, until I saw a documentary about Django Reinhardt. Later, I came to know that some of the most famous Flamenco dancers and performers are Romani. Their costumes, their music and the voices of the singer accompanying the dancers were just amazing. It as just very uplifting and inspiring!!
After watching the documentary, I thought of doing something, something as uplifting to my spirit. This fabric was the answer! I decided to practice my beading on the wristlet's chain. My daughter said, I've done well. And, I feel great!

Birthday Wristlets

These cute wristlets were made as a "thank you gifts" for my daughter's friends during her 12th birthday party. They went for a movie, then came back for cake and ice cream. My poor husband had to chaperon 5 screaming pre-teens to the movie. The party was a success, according the next day report from her guests.

Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving to all and may we all be able to survive "Black Friday"! Hehehehe

This is my first post after a long hiatus. It's just plain lazy, I have no excuses at all. I have been sewing and mending the past few months and trying to keep everything together. We had a circle of flu going on at my house. The first casualty was my son Emir, then me. Followed by our two daughters and my husband, the emergency room staffers knew us by sight! A few days later, our youngest, Imran. It was a harrowing experience.

Again, Happy Thanksgiving to you.

The Country House Rules

This quilt was machine pieced and machine quilted by Debbie Brug, titled Country House Rules.
This is my favorite, the letters are nicely centered with sunflowers framing the quotes.

My daughter said, this piece is especially delicious with the watermelon aorund it .

It has 20 blocks outlining the "rules" with catchy phrases. Just A fantastic work!

Kitty says Meow

The Catnip it is called by Jan Hirneisen, she made this for her granddaughter. One of the best as per my humble opinion at the Chambersburg Quilt Guild, quilt show this year. The cat appliques are so cute! Jan also uses varieties buttons; in shapes and colors, to enhance the playfulness of this quilt. Again the color selections are so simple, yet enticing for the little and big girls alike.

Beautiful Ladies of Leisure....

I am not sure the title of this fine work of art by Jacqueline Clark; from the picture it looks like a portrait on a canvas.

I especially love the head gears of the subjects, their earrings, hands waving while dancing underneath the greens of nature.

My interpretation, the celebration of friends and their friendship. I can't see a better tribute.

Chambersburg Quilt Guild, Quilt Show

This is one of the quilts that taken my eyes. The flower appliques and the crochet white roses on the four boarders of the quilt are neatly stitched onto the fabric, making it one of a kind work of art.

Titled "Tea Shop", by Chris Mieczkowski; the simplicity of the color selection, (by no means easy for the quilter to make.) resulted in a brilliant outcome, makes its soothing to the eyes.

Floral Skirts

A book by Francesca Denhartog and Carole Ann Camp, titled "Sew What! SKIRTS - 16 Simple styles you can make with fabulous fabrics", is a gem!!!!! Thanks to their easy to understand instructions (for a slow learner like me.), I am able to make a few skirts that fits me perfectly!

Though the authors suggested in drawing the pattern directly onto the fabrics, I opted to draft patterns out of wrapping papers. The results were just amazing!! I can't help but giving myself a pat in the back! Here's the skirts, tell me what do you think.

I made this skirt for my eldest daughter's band concert in May. The bright pink flowers against black background really caught my eyes. I learned to sew the zipper on this skirt from my fellow American Sewing Guild members, Ms. Judy O'Brien and Ms. Anita Rayburn. Darts were used to enchance the shape of the skirt, for I am a curvy lady!

A floral brown fabric bought on sale, I am attracted to the big pink flowers and floruscent green leaves. This is actually my first skirt, it is with an elastic waist band.

This a one tier skirt for my daughter, Azalea. I can't get a good picture of her wearing it. I'll try again in a few days.

Azalea's Coin Pouch

This a smaller pouch than Kim's, I machine qulited the background and machine appliqued the daisies on both sides of the pouch.

It is about 5' by 4 1/2'. I used a silk finished tread for the daisies and the leaves.

Kim's Birthday Gift

I made this pouch for my sister in-laws, whom is in San Diego, CA.

It's 6' by 5' with two different motives on the sides. I hand quilted the background and machine applique the flowers and the butterfly.

I was thinking of making a few more for birthday gifts, I'll post the pics. once it's done. Ciao.

My Roses

Spellbound (hybrid tea) has a deep coral and high-centered blooms. Has a light spicy fragrance.

Simply Marvelous a floribunda by Jackson and Perkins. Dark green foliage with strong antique-rose fragrance.

Enchanted Evening considered to be very disease resistance and has strong citrus fragrance that just take your breath away. Also a floribunda from Jackson and Perkins.

Dream Come True - This beautiful grandiflora has a mild tea rose fragrance, just tremendous!

Below zero rose called Dr. Bromwell, this is our latest edition. Very strong fragrance with deep yellow bloom and glossy dark green foliage.

My roses are doing very well this spring, no black spots, no yellowish leaves, no unwanted insects ( i.e: Japanese bettles). My husband and I have about 12 species of roses planted around our house. We also planted a maple tree and a magnolia saucer last year. Unfortunately, the magnolia saucer does not fair very well. We consulted the local horticulturist, he said it's has an iron deficiency. He recommended a mixture of fertlizer and iron, the result will be seen in 2 weeks. "Till then, hold your breath and cross your fingers".

Beyond the Pineapple

This is a thank you gift, made for our neighbor the Spike-Sterling Family for their generosities. They gave us 5 tickets to the Disney-on-Ice show at the Giant Center in Hershey. Since I have a problem of looking at colors beyond red and green - the brown background used was consider a big leap of faith on my part! My son thought it a cute color for a girl.

The Pineapple

I made this applique after a visit to the Christmas store. A friend told me; pineapple is a symbol of friendship. I will make a few more gifts to friends, hope they'll enjoy it a much as I enjoyed making it.

In the beginning this bag was supposed to be two placemats, I thought it was too big but was quite a waste to resize it...now you got a cute denim purse. As usual, all the denim works I have done so far are recycled from old jeans. The appliques are from this cute fat quaters that I had for a long, long while but felt it is a sin to cut through all of those beautiful prints. I put a small pocket on the inside, the handles were liberated from an old purse to give it nice finish look.

Tell me what do you think???

Floral Purse

This tote was made before the Batik tote, it was for my daughter's birthday but, after it's finished; the size is too big for a six year-old girl (I made her a new smaller purse to carry her dolls and a new pink camera courtesy from Grandma.).

Batik Surprise!!!

I was tiding up my sewing room last week and what do you know!!! found this beautiful brown batik fabric. Too small to make a blouse or a summer pants, then .... I decided to make a shopping tote bag. Something that could be taken to the grocery store or off window shopping for the day. It's 11'' by 15", with a few inside pockets; for cellphone, a camera and a notebook.... what do you think??? .

American Sewing Guild at the Gathering

We met our sisters-in-stitches at the Gathering. It was a pleasant surprise!! Ms. Patsy and Ms. Suzanne and Ms. Jan were there displaying their creativities. Unfortunately, (again) I didn't take agood photos of their booth but I did take a good picture of the banner.

7th Annual - A Gathering of Central Pennsylvania Fiber & Neddlework Guilds and Crafters Market

The annual event was on Saturday, February 28, 2009 in Harrisburg, PA I had wonderful time, to be surrounded by gifted artists and their best works was a big privilege. Hope to attend this event again next year.

The Wool and Peace Rug Hooking Guild conducted two classes, making wool flowers using the method of "proddy". My wool flower did came up pretty good, though I might not try a second anytime soon.

Students hard at work

Exhibiting our finish products

The two teachers (whom are very patient!),
loved the quilted jacket!

The finish Wool Flowers

One of the most exciting booths of the events was The Llama and Fiber Friends or LAFF for short. Unfortunately, I didn't snapped any of theirs booth or merchandises, but we did however signed up for Needle Felted Butterfly.

One of the teachers, Ms. Judy - left
Un-Embellished Butterfly

The Placemats

The background and the backing for these placemats are from 100% re-cycled denim, the leaves and the center are from my old stash. Fabrics for the flowers are from "an Ugly Fabrics Exchange" with the ASG members of the Chambersburg Neighborhood Chapter (thanks, Judy!).

I machine quilted the background, though am not so happy with the result but at least could be forgiven for it is my first try at machine quilting.
